Online medical social sites that provide personal stories of fighting illnesses such as cancer, depression, Alzheimer's disease and chronic diseases are gaining popularity. Dot-com sites like Trusera, PatientsLikeMe, Caring and DailyStrength allow disease sufferers to share stories and exchange information on health support groups. Users can search for specific diseases by name. A recent report found that more Americans had gotten health information off the Internet in the past year than from their doctors.
