Smaller packages of potato chips and ice cream could trigger a bigger appetite than large packages, according to a study in the Journal of Consumer Research. The study said people ate nearly twice as many chips when they were given 9 single-serve packages as they did when given 2 large bags. Also, the subjects ate small cups of Haagen-Dazs ice cream at a much faster pace, leading to overconsumption, the study said. The study also said consumers felt less hesitation before opening the smaller packages.
