• Doctors lacking in Rx training. Only four in ten doctors say they received medical school training on identifying prescription drug abuse and addiction, while nearly half said they’d been pressured by patients to prescribe a controlled drug, said a study by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University that highlighted increasing use and abuse of such drugs. About 15 million Americans abused prescription drugs in ’03, up 94% vs. ’92, estimates the center.
