Mental Performance Drugs as Common as a Morning Cup of Coffee
Over the next 20 years, drugs that aid mental performance will become as commonplace as a morning cup of coffee, the think tank Foresight predicts. Ritalin is used by students to aid their test performance, and the sleep disorder drug Modafinil helps people remember numbers.
People who consume soft drinks are more likely to develop diabetes and have decaying teeth, the Center for Science in the Public Interest said. The advocacy group wants cigarette-style warnings cautioning consumers about possible weight gain, pointing out that caffeine is a mild stimulant not appropriate for children, and urging people to drink water or diet soda.
