Alcohol Can Extend Life When it's Consumed in Moderation

Alcohol can extend life when it's consumed in moderation, but shorten it when abused, a review of 34 studies concluded. The findings, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, revealed that men who had up to four alcoholic beverages a day and women who had two a day lived an average of 18% longer. But those who regularly imbibed more than moderate amounts of alcohol were more likely to die younger from liver and heart disease as well as various cancers, the study found.
