Abdominal obesity rose more than 65% among boys and almost 70% among girls from 1988-2004, according to the U.S. government. The study found 17.4% of boys and 17.8% of girls had to much belly fat in 2004 vs. 11% for both groups in 1999. Belly fat is considered more dangerous than general weight gain because it is linked to heart disease.
