Anticipation Can Prove Painful
For some people, anticipating pain is the equivalent to experiencing it, the journal Science reported. Emory researchers found that people with overly acting pain-sensing portions of the brain registered discomfort before receiving electrical shocks, so they’d often elect to receive shocks in order to reduce dread-induced pain from waiting.
