A New Jersey high school is forcing incoming 9thgraders to pick a major they would like to pursue in college. The school says the specializations will help the students complete in the college admissions process. The Association of American Colleges and universities called the idea “collosally bad.” The New York Times reported the trend is most common in the South. Mississippi has a pilot program in 14 schools where students focus on 1 of 7 areas, fewer than the 400 majors from which Florida students can choose.
