‘Supersize’ Fast Food Lives On Fast-food portions are bigger than ever, a New York University study concluded. Although McDonald’s has eliminated its Supersize meals, its rivals have beefed up their offerings. Hardee’s, Burger King and Wendy’s have each introduced 1,000-plus calorie sandwiches with 12 ounces of beef or more, the amount of meat recommended for two days for most adults. Fast-food servings are 2 to 5 times bigger than they were in the 1950’s, the study said. Since diners tend to finish off whatever meal they purchase, the big servings will fuel growing obesity problems, researchers said.
