The Wonder of Wheatgrass

April 07, 2006

The Wonder of Wheatgrass

Why Wheatgrass?
Wheatgrass is one of the most complete foods that nature can offer. It has the ability to absorb more than 100 elements from the soil (depending on the quality of the seed and the medium it’s grown in, and it is a rich source of vitamins A and C and the B-complex… as well as of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulfur cobalt, and zinc. The food is abundant in vitamin B-17 (more commonly known as laetrile), a substance that’s said to selectively destroy cancer cells in the body. In fact, some researchers now claim that 15 pounds of fresh wheatgrass is nutritionally equivalent to 350 pounds of garden vegetables. Wheatgrass, then, might prove to be an excellent survival food… because it’s inexpensive, easily accessible, highly nutritious, palatable, free of poisonous sprays.

What is the Easiest Way to Enjoy It?
Probably the easiest way to enjoy the benefits of wheatgrass is by drinking its juice. The solid matter contained in wheatgrass juice is approximately 70% chlorophyll, a substance that has been called “nature’s great healer”. Because, wheatgrass chemical composition resemble that of hemoglobin, when the juice is taken internally the chlorophyll is rapidly assimilated into the bloodstream. For that reason, the “crude” chlorophyll enters the blood cells quickly… where it’s said to heal tissues, purify the liver, improve blood sugar, and generally help flush out ingested toxins from within the body.

What is the Recommended Dose?
When you begin drinking the juice, start slowly. Take on or two tablespoons of the liquid daily, at first. It’s recommended that you consume it in the morning on an empty stomach, and avoid solid foods for bout 20 minutes afterward. Sip the juice slowly, mixing it with your saliva before swallowing it. Wheatgrass juice often brings on feelings of nausea when the enzymes present in the juice mix with the toxins and mucus in your stomach. If that happens, lie down and rest until the feeling passes. The wheatgrass is not toxic or harmful to you. If you’re trying to “detoxify” your system, wheatgrass enthusiasts say that you should gradually increase your intake until you’re drinking three to eight ounces of juice daily….then-once you reach good health-two ounces a day will serve as a maintenance dose.

What are the Benefits?
Some of the benefits of wheatgrass juice are:

ü Helps to reduce high blood pressure, as it cleanses the bloodstream.
ü Enhances the white blood cell count, strengthening the immune system.
ü Alleviates anemia, as the chlorophyll raises the hemoglobin level of the blood.
ü Supplies laetrile, which selectively destroys cancerous cells without harming normal cells.
ü Rubbed into scalp, reduces dandruff and restores the normal color to hair.
ü Used as a mouth wash, relieves toothache and sore throat, and helps prevent tooth decay.
ü Is one of the richest sources of vitamins A, B, and C. It is an excellent source of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulfur, cobalt, zinc, and protein.
ü Wheatgrass poultices may be applied to the gums for pyorrhea.
ü Dissolves scars that form in the lungs from breathing acid gasses.
ü Minimizes the effect of exposure to harmful chemicals and radiation.
ü Reduces the level of toxic metals, such as lead, cadmium, mercury, aluminum and copper.
ü Improves the functioning of the heart, vascular system, uterus, intestines, and lungs.
ü May be implanted into the colon to heal and detoxify the colon walls. After cleansing the colon with an enema, insert 4 oz of wheatgrass with a syringe, and retain for 20 minutes.
ü Wheatgrass pulp, soaked in the juice, may be applied to the skin as a poultice for burns, wounds, cuts, bites or infections.
