Diabetes drugs may rise 68% through ’09 from ’06 levels due to a growing need for drugs to treat the disease, more aggressive treatment and new combination of drug therapies, according to a Medco Health Solutions report. The study said that growth costs for the diabetes drugs outpaced all other prescription drugs spending growth with the exception of cholesterol medication. Spending on diabetes drugs rose 14.5% from ’05 to ’06. In ’05 sales were $9.88 billion.
