Dear friend of PCRM,
Two years ago, when the ad campaign linking dairy product consumption to weight loss started, PCRM decided to take the lead in exposing the harmful message being mass-marketed by this 50 billion-dollar industry.
In a victory for consumers, two national dairy advertising campaigns overseen by the U.S. Department of Agriculture will stop claiming that dairy products cause weight loss because such claims are not supported by existing scientific research, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced in a letter to the PCRM. The decision, which comes in response to an FTC petition filed by PCRM, will end misleading claims made in the “Milk Your Diet. Lose Weight” and “3-A-Day. Burn More Fat, Lose Weight” promotions.
This successful effort was led by our small, talented team of PCRM lawyers and researchers who went up against the vast resources of the dairy industry to convince the FTC that the ads in question were false and misleading.
As a PCRM supporter, you made this victory possible! But make no mistake, the battle is not over. The dairy industry vows to fund more self-serving research to continue to make additional claims about the supposed health benefits of dairy products.
PCRM will be there at every turn to protect the health of American consumers, and more than ever we need your continued support so that we have the resources available to succeed.
If this good news inspires you, please make a generous donation today to support our efforts to promote ethical medicine and research.
Together we ARE making a difference!
Best regards,
Neal Barnard, M.D.
