Frankincense (Resin Oil)
Plant profile: Frankincense is a robust desert shrub with delicate leaves and whitish papery bark. The name actually means “true incense,” and it has been burned in religious ceremonies since ancient times. The frankincense plantations of the pharaohs were seen as one of the most valuable commodities in Egypt and frankincense was used in the embalming process. Cuts were made in the bark to make the gum ooze out. Frankincense is still used for incense and distilled for the oil, mainly in Somalia and Oman.
Fragrance profile: Frankincense is fresh and sharp initially, deepening to woody, resiny with sweet notes.
Main Uses: Frankincense disinfects and heals cuts, wounds, eczema, and damaged skin; tones and rejuvenates all skin types, especially mature; eases chesty coughs or bronchitis; comforts anxiety and emotional stress.
Safety information: no issues with frankincense.
