Black Pepper (Berry and Seed Oil) Piper Nigrum
Plant profile: This plant is trailing vine-like climber with lovely, heart-shaped, dark green leaves, and clusters of white flowers that become the berries – or peppercorns. These turn from red to black as they mature (white pepper has had the outer layer removed). Black pepper corns are steamed-distilled to yield the essential oil. The tropical plant is native to India, and the oil is produced there as well as in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Safety Information: no issues with black pepper.
Fragrance profile: Black pepper is warm, musty, sharp, and spicy, with heavier sweet notes later.
Main Uses: Black pepper warms and stimulates blood circulation; helps to ease aches and pains; soothes indigestion, stomach cramps, and constipation; strengthens the immune system, especially against influenza.
