Tea Tree (Leaf Oil)
Plant profile: tea tree essential oil is native to Australia, where it has long been used by the aboriginal people as an antiseptic. The name “tea tree” refers to the practice of drinking an infusion of the leaves as a healing herbal drink, first observed by the sailors on Captain Cook’s ship in the eighteenth century. Production of the oil is now a huge commercial enterprise with a whole host of tea tree products available on the market, from toothpaste to foot powder. It is one of the most antiseptic plants ever discovered.
Fragrance profile: tea tree essential oil is medicinal, green, camphoraceous aroma, pungent and strong.
Main uses: tea tree essential oil clears skin infections and acne; heals wounds and cuts; soothes insect bites; clears athlete’s foot; helps influenza, colds, bronchitis; boosts general immunity.
Safety information: safe to use neat on the skin (2 drops on an absorbent cotton pad applied directly to the affected area) except on individuals with sensitive or allergy-prone skin, for whom it must be diluted in carrier oil.
