Myrrh (Resin Oil)
Plant profile: Myrrh is a thorny shrub, native to the arid climates of Somalia and Arabia, with papery bark is cracked or cut deliberately. Myrrh is a soluble in water and has been used as a tonic for the teeth and gums since the time of Hypocrites (469 – 399 BCE), the father of Western medicine. Like frankincense, myrrh is prized for wound healing, and was used by the ancient Egyptians for embalming.
Main Uses: Myrrh heals and disinfects deep cuts, wounds, chapped and cracked skin, eczema; cleans and disinfects the mouth, easing sore gums and mouth ulcers; relieves bronchitis, chesty coughs; comforts and calms highly anxious emotional states.
Safety information: Myrrh is best avoided during pregnancy.
