Lemon (Fruit Oil) Citrus Limonum
Plant profile: The finest essential oil of the lemon is considered to come from trees grown in Sicily, although the fruit is also cultivated in California, Florida, and Israel. The evergreen tree is thorny and shiny, dark green, aromatic leaves that produce an essential oil called petitgrain citronnier. The fragrant flowers turn into fruits, which when ripe are a warm golden yellow. Essential oil of the lemon is expressed, or squeezed out of the peel of the fruit.
Safety Information: Lemon is mildly phototoxic; avoid any exposure to strong sunlight or a sun bed for at least twelve hours after application of the oil to skin.
Fragrance profile: Lemon is green, citrusy, and fresh, zesty, and bright; softer and more sherbety tones develop with time.
