The closest thing yet to a substance that would absorb light perfectly was developed by N.Y. researchers. The team used a carpet like arrangement of carbon nanotubes, which are cylinders of carbon just a few nanometers in diameter. The substance reflects only 0.045% of all light that falls on it. Experts say the applications for super dark materials include making more efficient solar cells and optical instruments.
